In recent years, Jamaica’s tourism industry has seen significant annual growth and was on track to become “the fastest-growing sector in Jamaica”, according to Bartlett. In 2018, Jamaica welcomed over 4 million visitors, generated over USD $3 billion in revenue and contributed to 11% of the island’s gross domestic product (GDP). The Ministry of Tourism recently presented 10,000 masks to frontline workers, as part of the fight against the novel coronavirus when the sector reopens. The JCTI is tasked with facilitating the development of Jamaica’s valuable human capital and support innovation for the tourism sector.
