Officials said that they would name the facility "Bashor Field at Aztec Stadium" after the lead donor, local philanthropist Dianne Bashor. The City Council in November voted to move forward with a proposal that will allow the school to purchase the land needed for the new stadium, which would feature seating for 35,000 fans.

The stadium will be the centerpiece of the SDSU West project slated for the land where SDCCU stadium… San Diego State University has secured a $15 million donation from local philanthropist Dianne Bashor to fund construction of the school’s planned Mission Valley stadium, and the Aztecs home field will now go by the name of Bashor Field. The gift is being characterized as one of the largest in the institution’s history.

Situated in the northwest corner of the site, the stadium would serve as host to numerous other community and sporting events as well.

The 35,000-seat multi-use stadium would house the Aztec football team and would be configured to host professional soccer events immediately.
